Tora-kan Kara'te-do

Tora means "Tiger" and Kan means "Humility" or "Respect." Thus, Tora-kan, literally translates to mean "Humble respect of the tiger," referring to the deep respect which I hold for my many teachers who brought me up through the ranks.

Kara means "Empty," Te means "Hand" and Do means "Way." Thus Kara'te-do is litterally "The empty hand way."

Because the older systems I teach are extremely technical and potentially lethal, I long ago recognized a need to develop a grauated process for beginning students, to prepare them for training in Pa Sao-ha Bushi-jujitsu, Ushicho Tegumi, or any of the other deadly fighting arts in which I offer instruction. The result was Tora-kan Karate-do.

Based losely upon the Shoto-Kan Karate-do which Funakoshi Gishen developed for the purpose of instilling morals and good character in Japanese school children, Tora-kan not only teaches such things as proper body mechanics and coordination, it is infused with moral and philosophical truth. The end result of this process is not only a student who is prepared for the rigors of the more advance training which will make them a world class combative scientist, but one who is on their way to being a world class person.
